From 2025, all iPhones will have OLED displays
Starting in 2025, Apple will use organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays in all its iPhone models. Japan's Nikkei said, citing reliable sources, that the company has decided to move away from liquid crystal displays (LCDs) altogether. News Reuters.
Television and smartphone manufacturers are increasingly turning to OLED displays for better color, sharper contrast and high-definition video.
As a result of Apple's plan, Japan's Sharp Corporation and Japan Display are being left out of the company's handset business, Nikkei said.
Apple has already started ordering OLED displays from China's BOE Technology and South Korea's LG Display for use in their next iPhone SE model.
About a decade ago, Sharp and Japan Display had a combined share of about 70 percent in iPhone display manufacturing. But recently only offered LCD for iPhone SE.
In 2017, Apple used an OLED panel for the first time in the iPhone X. OLED is currently being used in premium models.
